Door Eleven Productions is a video production company that specializes primarily in low budget, independent filmmaking. The genesis of the company began in March of 2004 when a short film called “Be Kind, Rewind” was produced. The project, though initially intended as an assignment for a college course, was deigned as an experiment in minimalistic movie production. The script called for only a small handful of actors to be confined to mostly one location. Using very primitive methods and inexpensive equipment with absolutely no budget and an almost non-existent crew, the short film acted as a sort of film school and gave birth to “The Bag”.“The Bag” (which was ultimately only a small prop in “Be Kind”) became the nickname of the three founding members of Door Eleven Productions. Dom Portalla acts as the writer/director and is also responsible for the videography and editing as well. Mirza Causevic handles set photography and organized photo shoots along with being the projects music supervisor and resident graphic designer. Dennis Pinto operates as the producer and project coordinator. In 2005 Door Eleven Productions would begin pre-production on their most ambitious project—a feature length gangster/comedy called “D U A L I T Y”. With a finished 121-page screenplay, “The Bag” quickly began pre-production on what would be their first true independent film. Both casting and rehearsals took place between Oct 05’ – Dec 05’ and principal photography started promptly in January of 2006. Shooting would take place mainly on the weekends and lasted up until the end of the summer of ’06. The project was a total exercise in micro-budget, guerilla filmmaking and “D U A L I T Y” was made without the support of a studio. Its budget is estimated to have been in the league of $7,000—which was mostly accumulated by credit card debt (a-la Kevin Smith’s low-budget “Clerks”). The film premiered in the filmmaker’s hometown of Revere, MA on June 2nd, 2007 and played to an audience of 250+. It received a terrific overall reaction and a standing ovation at the conclusion of the screening. “D U A L I T Y” is currently being submitted to film festivals all over the United States and is seeking distribution. Door Eleven Productions is also at work at self-distributing a Special Edition DVD which will include commentaries from the filmmakers, deleted scenes and featurettes. The DVD is projected to be available early in the new year. For the time being, “D U A L I T Y” has been made available to watch for free on the internet. D.E.P. has also produced a series of short films intended to increase its growing youtube audience. All of the short films can be located in the “PORTFOLIO” section of the site. Currently included are the controversial “Billboard America” (originally made as a submission to the Howard Stern Film Festival in 2006), the buddy-comedy “Jimmy’s Birthday” and the pseudo-reality parody “Marty Langford – Bible Salesman”. More short films are in the works, so please check back for future postings. Door Eleven has also worked with local electronic-punk band Cherry S/T and has produced a short series of youtube shorts called “Cherry T/V” which acts as part sketch comedy—part documentary—part concert film. Music video’s and concert footage from CST along with many more local Boston bands are also in the works, so be sure to keep a look out. Lastly, Door Eleven’s next major project is a follow up feature film to Duality called “DARKNESS”, a psychological horror film playing upon the idea of voyeurism. The script currently is in development and the movie is projecting the start of production to take place in the spring of 2008. Further details, along with casting calls and production photo’s will be on there way soon. Thank you for visiting DoorElevenProductions.com and please support your local indie filmmakers! Sincerely – The Bag.
